Shida… Your post(s) makes me sad… it is almost as if I can see the outline of a person behind those words, a person void of all self confidence, cowering from the challenges of life, with a tiny ego dried and shriveled into almost nothingness… It seems to me you are sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss of self-pity (correct me if I’m wrong), and I think it would be great injustice if I do not snap you out of your miserable nightmare.
Let’s all face it; we all have our insufficiencies, and the inevitable flaws we were born with. In fact, you might be thinking right now, wth is this noob here trying to do, attempting to cheer someone else up when he himself is screwing up even more? But as you shall soon realize, there is no real point being sad over what you cannot do.
Let me ask you a simple question. Which is better, a bag of rocks or a bag of sand? Being the mugger that you must be, you must have realized long ago that all good philosophical questions like this one would have absolutely no answer at all. And that is exactly the case; objects by themselves are neither good nor bad, they are only so when a purpose is added to them. Similarly for humans, there is no good or bad to me being unable to pass my NAPFA- it is simply the case that the atoms and molecules in my body are arranged in such a manner that it is physically impossible for me to complete a certain exercise at this current point in time. (Oh don’t argue “it’s all in the will”, perseverance is nothing more than strong thoughts, which are nothing more than electrical impulses running through our nervous system, and therefore inability to generate such impulses by the brain is still a physical problem) There is no good or bad- until we define the purpose, which is perhaps to pass NAPFA.
It is obvious that our purpose in life, however, is far less rigidly defined. There is no general consensus on “what is the purpose of man”. Moral advocates say it’s to make the lives of others better. Selfish people say it is to make their own lives better. Scientifically, it may be as simple as passing on your DNA to the next generation. The point is that each individual can decide his or her own purpose, and this purpose in return defines whether that individual is good or bad. The laws of the universe limit what you can ever do in your whole life. Would you allow a definition of purpose for yourself such that you would forever be defined as bad at fulfilling that purpose? Or would you take the initiative and define yourself that you are forever good, forever happy?
You might think that such hedonistic views are merely nothing but deceiving oneself, but what is the meaning of “deceiving oneself”? Is it to hide oneself from the truth? The truth is, when that ticking time bomb that is our sun ticks down to zero in a few billion years time, would whether or not we get into NRP some billions of years ago even matter in the slightest bit? No, by then this third rock from the sun would have been evaporated and everything would revert to death- the most natural state.
So, coming back to the present, I don’t think I can really make an impact on how you define your purpose. It just happened to be that some electron moved somehow in some mysterious part of my brain leading me to writing this, and how you are affected is really not dependent on my wishes. Perhaps your purpose was to be sad for your whole life. But never ever forget the important fact about electrons, possibly the main point of this post. The behavior of electrons determines the natural behavior of all things. If you are a believer in god (nono, egotheists like me not included), then let me tell you this. The secret of nature was hidden into things as small as electrons. The natural way, what many people consider as the right way, is to be lazy. You see, electrons would choose to configure themselves with the lowest energy level possible, and this proves the right of all human beings to slacking. Yawn... talking about slacking, nature has passed the decree- some electron in my head has moved in such a way such that i feel sleepy now, and therefore shall stop writing things which might seem nonsensical and just go to sleep.
